Bobi Wine Courts Lango with Appeal for Unity

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, the National Unity Platform (NUP) party’s Presidential candidate, is urging peace, reconciliation, and Unity in Lango. Bobi is currently traversing the Lango sub-region, canvassing for votes to win the presidential election in the 2026 general elections. 

While addressing a congregation at St. Augustine Church of Uganda- Barogole and thereafter Uganda Martyrs Cathedral, Lira on Sunday, Kyagulanyi argued that Uganda is stuck in hate, suspicion, and questions of the past, which continue to divide instead of unite the people. He urged the new generation to embrace a new Uganda. “It is our time to make our own mistakes, and correct our own mistakes, and build a new Uganda, a new Uganda based on love, unity, peace, and on reconciliation.”

“All of you see I’m a young man, well-traveled, well-learned, and with a good plan for Uganda. And obviously, I’m the best candidate. However, of course, with the best team. But I know all that does not make sense when we don’t connect heart to heart. It all does not make sense when we don’t trust, have trust in each other.” He explained.

Bobi further explained that visiting Jimmy Akena Obote’s home in Akokoro, Apac district, paying respects to the resting place of Dr. Apollo Milton Obote, Uganda’s founding father, changed his perspective about Northern Uganda and the message he had as well. “That visit alone touched me, and in many ways, changed even my orientation to Northern Uganda,” he said.

Adding “My generation and those younger are being taught to be divided, being taught not to love each other, being taught to live when we miss the unfortunate events of the past. I realized that we are more similar than different, that it is more beneficial when we are together.”

In his sermon Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok, the ordinary of Lira diocese, applauded Kyagulanyi for being the first presidential candidate to visit the church, seeking a blessing. He welcomed the other candidates and politicians seeking blessings to follow the path, saying the church has all parties.

Bishop Wanok called on Ugandans to embrace forgiveness. “This year is the year of much forgiveness than we expect, we forgive with all our hearts and begin a new so please don’t let this chance pass you by without forgiving all the past and absorbing the message of a new Uganda.”
