American singer Lionel Richie will be performing in Uganda mid this year.
The news of his coming to Uganda was announced by Justice and constitutional affairs minister Norbert Mao and officials from Adventure for humanity at a press conference which was held at the media centre in Kampala on 11th,February,2025
Hon. Norbert Mao revealed that the a concert to be held in Gulu during the month of May will be majorly focused on educating Ugandans and the whole world at large about the dangers of climate change.
He disclosed that Lionel Richie is one of the many international artists lined up to perform at the grand concert.
Mao said the concert is being organised as an image to the world that peace returned to Northern Uganda after many years of political instability which was caused Joseph Kony and his Lord’s resistance army rebels.
The concert is also expected to boost tourism and investment, positioning Gulu as a vibrant hub for arts, culture, and eco-tourism.
“Not only that the concert will also be used to promote local tourism in our city because it will attract a lot of people from Uganda and the rest of the world,” he added.
According to the president of the adventure for humanity Richard Nilsson, the three day event that kicks off on the 29th of May aims to raise awareness about climate change in Uganda with the support of different development partners including the government of Uganda.
Nilson emphasized that the event’s three core objectives are raising climate awareness, supporting the education of 1,000 schoolchildren, and promoting global unity.
“We shall create something big together and our mission is to educate and inspire the new generation of people through mindset change,” he said

an American singer, songwriter, actor and record producer who started singing with the funk and soul band the Commodores
During his time with the group, he released several albums to his name and in 1983 ,his follow up Album,Can’t Slow Down, sold over twice as many copies and won two Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, propelling him into the first rank of international superstars.
He also co-wrote the 1985 charity single “We Are the World” with Michael Jackson, which sold over 20 million copies.
