The NRM Sets Date for the Adjumani West Flag Bearer

The NRM Electoral Commission has officially designated 3rd September 2026 as the polling date for selecting the NRM flag bearer in the upcoming Adjumani West parliamentary by-election. This election is necessitated by the recent passing of the incumbent, General Moses Ali, who held the position prior to his death.

As outlined in a comprehensive roadmap shared by the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, the process for expressing interest in candidacy commenced today and will remain open until 14th August. Candidates interested in running for the NRM flag bearer must submit their expressions of interest within this timeframe.

The nomination period for potential candidates is from 17 to 18 August. Following this, joint campaigning will begin on 20th August and continue until 1st September, allowing candidates a brief window to present their platforms and engage with voters before polling day.

Dr. Odoi has issued a stern warning to non-nationals, particularly those from neighbouring countries such as South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He emphasised that these individuals should not interfere in the NRM primaries, as eligibility to participate in the election is strictly limited to Ugandan nationals.

This electoral roadmap has been coordinated in light of a broader schedule set forth by the national Electoral Commission. Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama has identified 17th September as the general polling date for the by-election, ensuring that all processes align with national electoral guidelines. This careful planning reflects the commission’s commitment to conducting a fair and transparent electoral process in the wake of this vacancy.
