Police in Busoga East on Monday confirmed the arrest of three men, whom they accuse of manufacturing and distributing fake dollars to unsuspecting victims.
The suspects are currently detained at Iganga central police station, awaiting further investigations and prosecution.
They are 29-year-old, Amisi Isooba, Cyrus Guule, 25 and Asuman Isooba, aged 19.
The suspects were arrested from their hideout in Kisinze village, in Namungalwe town council, in Iganga district.
According to police enquiries, the suspects create decoys posing as faithful shamba boys entrusted with unspecified amounts of dollars by their deceased white bosses.
They fake shamba boys play illiterate and unaware of the value of this newly found wealth. Then they randomly approach individuals to give them Shillings, in exchange for the dollars.
The suspects normally entice their victims with genuine currency of between 100-500USD and on exchanging the same at random forex bureaus, trust is built to commence transactions.
This newly found trust makes the victims vulnerable to fraud, as they are willing to give in money, inexchange of dollars.
The arrest resulted from a complaint by Dismas Akampulira, a resident of Kigoowa zone, in Nakawa division, in Kampala city, who was fleeced of 13 Million Shillings on 06th, March, 2026.
Akampulira says that he was convinced with the act by the suspects, leading him to invest UGX13 Million in exchange for 30,000 USD, which turned out to be fake.
He says he was lured to the suspects via facebook, where one of them convinced him about the dollar scam.
The Busoga East police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, says that the file had been already submitted to resident state attorney for perusal. The suspects will face two counts of aggravated robbery and distribution of fake currency.
