Guardian of Victim Remanded for Obstructing Prosecution in Defilement Case

The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s  Court has remanded a one Jidith Natuhera, a guardian of a 15-year-old defilement victim after she deliberately hid the child from testifying upon payment of a Ugx 500,000 settlement fee by the suspect.

Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi earlier order for the arrest of Natuhwera after prosecution noted that she had failed to appear in court on several occasions thus frustrating the prosecution of the case.

Prosecution stated that Natuhwera’s continued absence had crippled efforts to proceed with the case, which involves boda boda rider David Muwanguzi who is accused of defiling the minor in July this year.

According to prosecution, on July 4, 2025, Muwanguzi allegedly performed a sexual act with the girl at Kyebando Kisalosalo in Kampala District. The matter was reported by the victim herself, who was medically examined by police and found to have fresh bruises in her private parts.

However, later Natuhera’s  conduct including entering into a questionable compensation arrangement with the suspect and failing to appear in court as a witness has led to her arrest and subsequent remand.

Meanwhile today, the victim was presented before court and confirmed that she had been paid Ugx 500,000 to give false testimony in court to the contrary that Muwanguzi had had sexual relations with her.

Indeed in her testimony, the victim stated she worked in Muwanguzi’s shop but on the fateful night, the accused merely touched her stomach and had no sexual inter-course with her.

However on confronting her with her statement to police in which she confirmed that Muwanguzi had defiled her and a report from a police doctor, she retracted her testimony and told court the truth that Muwagunzi had sex with her.

Chief magistrate Ronald Kayizzi ordered that the 15 year old girl be placed under a care home as the hearing of the case proceeds on Wednesday 17th/ September.
