Artiste Joshua Baraka’s spotify listenership has hit 1 million and the singer says this achievement is worth celebrating.
He now becomes the first Ugandan artiste to reach the milestone as no local artiste has come close to those numbers.
In a statement, he said he never imagined that his Spotify numbers would grow because many told him of how it’s hard to make it into the world of music streaming.
He thanked everyone who has been part of the journey since 2020 and believes the numbers will grow even higher with time.
“Never imagined this 1 MILLION monthly listeners on Spotify. Thank
You for every stream, every share, every bit of love. Let’s keep going,” he said in a social media post.
This achievement places Baraka among an elite group of East African artists who have crossed the million-listener mark on the streaming giant.
Some of the east african artistes with millions of spotify listeners are Sofia Nzau (Kenya) with 10.8M, KayCyy (Kenya) with 1.2M, Idd Aziz (Kenya) with 1.2M, BarBara Wangui (Kenya) with 1.1M, Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania) with 1.4M and Rayvanny (Tanzania) with 2.2M
Ugandan music analyst James Propa congratulated Baraka for the achievement and called upon artistes to embrace streaming platforms if they want to reach many listeners world wide
“This shows that its possible for artistes to earn money through streams though its a painful journey that needs building connections with different stakeholders and also it requires a lot of finances and discipline.” he added
