Bedridden comedian Okanya Sammy of the De Mighty Family comedy Group has penned a letter seeking medical and financial support from the Uganda Comedy Association.
The letter dated 9th, July, 2025 seeks to mobilize funds to help him get medical attention following a sickness that has incapacitated him since since his release from custody.
“ The medical bills are overwhelming as my condition continues to worsen every day. I therefore reach out to all association members to help me with money for my rehabilitation,” he wrote.
He said he is seeking help from artistes and comedians because they have always stood together despite having different political opinions
“ I plead that we extend the same Unity and love towards one another and am welcoming any contribution whether big or small to help me receive urgent treatment,” he revealed.
He said he will return to the comedy industry and entertain his fans after getting medical treatment and urges the public to also join hands and support his cause.
He was arrested and detained for several months in 2024 over his social media videos that were insulting different government officials including President Museveni.
He said some of the sicknesses troubling were as a result of the long detention without trial.
Sammyy was detained at Kitalya Prison, having been arrested last year in July as he participated in the #March2Parliament protests. He was released in late November.
