As the NRM Presidential campaigns enter the third day in West Nile, leaders have reminded President Museveni to tackle key development challenges in the region.
They say some of the issues promised by Museveni have been outstanding for close to a decade.
The issues came up as Museveni, the NRM presidential candidate, was campaigning in Arua on Monday afternoon.
Museveni was urged to consider the plight of the people of West Nile by implementing developments that the local leadership considers a priority in the next five years.
Among the key issues listed for consideration are: upgrading the roads of Nebbi-Paidah-Vurra, Pakwach-Wadelai-Rhino Camp to Wandi in Terego, the Manibe-Terego-Yumbe road, and Arua City-Lia Border road.
Others are the compensation for LRA war victims amounting to UGX 99 Billion for 1102 affected persons, the Ombaci Massacre of 1981, where over 80 people were killed in a Church Mission area, the development of two key industrial parks in Madi Okollo and Oraba in Koboko, extension of electricity to areas without power in Arua City and district, including Madi Okollo.
Boniface Alioni, the NRM Chairman of Arua district, specifically appealed to President Museveni to establish a Technical School in Vurra for youth skilling and job creation, and to upgrade Arivu Health Center III to a general hospital for Arua district.
Similarly, Zoe Bakoko Bakoru, the NRM chairperson of the Ayivu Division in Arua City, requested President Museveni to address the city’s key challenges, including upgrading Arua Airfield into an International Airport, upgrading Arua Regional Referral Hospital to a national referral hospital, and creating more divisions in Arua City.
President Museveni did not directly comment on most of the demands raised by the leaders. He, however, noted that road improvements would be addressed soon.
Museveni’s campaign in W. Nile seeks re-election for a seventh term under the NRM, amid repeated calls for fulfillment of decade-old pledges.
He is expected to continue with the campaigns in Maracha district for both Terego and Maracha in the morning before proceeding to Koboko in the afternoon on Tuesday.
