Three Confirmed Dead in Collision on Mbarara- Bushenyi Highway

Bushenyi police has confirmed that three people died on spot and several others critically injured in a terrible road accident that occured on Thursday evening.

The accident that involved a Tausi bus, registration number UBA 707AK and a Toyota Noah UA 196 AY happened at Katojjo cell in Rwentuuha Town Council in Bushenyi district.

Apollo Tayebwa the Greater Bushenyi region police spokesperson says the 5:00 PM crash was caused by the reckless driving of the Toyota Noah driver.

Vicent Agaba, a resident of Katojjo who witnessed the collision said the driver of the Noah was driving on a high speed ledt his lane and hit the bus.

“The Noah driver was driving recklessly from the Ishaka side then suddenly left his lane and rammed into the speeding bus. The bus driver tried to dodge him, but the Noah driver wasn’t stable so he remmed into the bus” Agaba said.

Joseph Ayesiga, another eyewitness blamed the Noah driver saying he was driving on the wrong side of the road and after causing the crash fled the scene.

Robert Ayebare, said besides the reckless driving, the Mbarara-Bushenyi highway is full of potholes, which also contributes to the accidents that occur on the road.

“Most of the accidents that happen on this road are caused by this poor road full of holes, and the authorities don’t say anything about it, we want it worked on.”

Tayebwa has issued a stern warning to all road users saying: ‘’Everyone must be vigilant whether you are a driver or a pedestrian. Let us follow the rules and regulations that govern road safety to protect our lives.

He said the injured were rushed to Kabwohe Health Center IV, while the bodies of the deceased were taken for post-mortem examinations at Kampala International University Teaching Hospital as investigations continue.
