The Judiciary’s Sector Three Commander of security, Ronald Mutabazi, is dead.
The Superintendent of Police, Ronald Mutabazi, was, according to sources, found dead at his home in Namugongo early Friday morning.
Sources have indicated that a team of Homicide officers from the Uganda Police Force was at his home to investigate the cause of the sudden death.
It is alleged that the officer was battling diabetes and high blood Pressure, which deteriorated last night after the chaotic events surrounding the treason case of Dr Kizza Besigye and his co-accused, Obeid Lutale and Captain Denis Oola.
The case session on Thursday was marred by chaotic scenes after the daughter of Lutale charged towards the trial Judge Emmanuel Baguma, protesting his decision to refer the case to the Constitutional Court for it to determine if he would be fair in the trial since the accused filed a pending case before the Judicial Service Commission accusing him of bias and incompetence.
The sources revealed that after the session, the Judge reportedly met with the security team manning the premises and threatened that he would write to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to deploy the soldiers attached to the Elite Special Forces Command -SFC.
It is stated that in the meeting, the Judge allegedly accused the security officers of conspiring with the opposition to cause chaos by allowing everyone inside the Court.
The Court on Thursday was filled to capacity. But several other supporters of Besigye and members of his Patriotic Front for Freedom, led by Nana Mwafirika, who wants to contest as Kampala District Woman MP, were blocked from entering the premises.
They were blocked for several reasons, including being late and finding that the court was full, wearing campaign t-shirts and lack of Identification cards, among others. Some were later arrested by the Field Force Unit of Police, and others were dispersed.
Sources suspect that all this could have triggered the increased pressure on Mutabazi, who was on Thursday active on duty and involved in maintaining sanity at the Judiciary Headquarters, which hosts the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal/Constitutional Court, and the Criminal Division of the High Court.
The media fraternity, especially Court Journalists, has mourned Mutabazi as a calm and professional down-to-earth officer who was approachable and tolerant.
