A group of MPs seeking the censure of the four parliamentary backbench commissioners has slammed the speaker Anita Among for blocking their censure motion.
The group had managed to collect the requisite number of signatures to allow the motion to proceed on the floor of parliament but Among wrote to then stating that the motion had been overtaken by a court ruling that exonerated the parliamentary commissioners.
The commissioners had been sued for sharing 1.7bn shillings under the guise of a service award.
But the group led by Lwemiyaga county MP Theodore ssekikubo, rejected the speaker’s decision to deny their motion space on the order paper, noting that their motion has other issues of wasteful expenditure that need to be debated.
“We have other grounds, other grounds of the motion include misconduct and misbehaviour, that involve the siphoning of parliamentary commission money through fictitious trips.” Sekikubo asserted.
The group told the media at parliament their motion contains many other issues including misconduct of the commissioners and mismanagement of funds at parliament. Ssekikubo says the commissioners need to explain their misconduct.
“So you can see, misconduct is different, recruitment and employment, all these are matters where we think court never touched.” Sekikubo added.
