Shamim Mayanja Challenges Misleading Narratives Surrounding Hijab Nation Event

Written by on August 21, 2024

Prominent actress Shamim Mayanja has taken aim at Muslim scholars whom she accuses of misleading the public about the upcoming Hijab Nation event.

Scheduled for August 31, 2024, Hijab Nation is designed to celebrate and inspire the wearing of Islamic attire among Muslim women. However, the event has faced criticism from various Muslim scholars who argue that participation in such an event is not permissible for Muslim leaders.

Mayanja argues that the event is intended to encourage Muslim women to embrace Islamic dress. Taking place in Lugogo, the event aims to reach women who may not traditionally follow Islamic dress codes.

“My focus is on Muslim women who frequent clubs and social media, often showcasing less traditional attire. I want them to integrate their faith with modern life,” she said.

Mayanja stressed the importance of modesty in Islam.

“We aim to help these women feel proud of their Islamic dress and to appreciate its beauty in their daily lives. It’s about finding a balance,” she added.

She also addressed the role of online scholars, stating, “I appreciate the online scholars who have sparked debate and confusion. Their critiques have only strengthened my resolve to promote the hijab and modesty.”

The event will feature motivational talks and networking opportunities for young Muslim women, focusing on boosting their confidence and reinforcing their religious identity.
