Rajiv Funeral – Tearful Farewell to a Beloved Son, Brother and Father

The funeral of Rajiv Ruparelia Managing Director of Ruparelia Group will take place today at the Hindu Crematorium Grounds in Lugogo.

According to the family, Rajiv’s funeral will commence at 2:30pm.

Sources close to the family said the day will begin with a morning procession from the family home in Kololo to the cremation site in Lugogo, Nakawa Division, with family members and mourners in attendance.

Tributes to the late business icon continue to pour in as preparations for his funeral get underway.

One of Rajiv’s close friends Gideon Kirumira has described him as a loving and dedicated family man always ready to help society.

“His way was to help society, his way was to give back value to the people he lived among ….Rajiv was a soul full of life, Rajiv was a loving soul, Rajiv was a godly soul.” Kirumira remarked in his Eulogy to his departed friend and confidant.

Onyango Gareth a long-time friend of Rajiv’s remembers his departed friend as someone whose presence was felt everywhere he went.

“Rajiv was the kindest person who made every moment count, his smile was infectious and his spirit generous.” Gareth fondly remarked.

Rajiv Ruparelia died early Saturday morning, May 3 in a car crash in Busabala, Wakiso District. He was driving a Nissan GTR heading to Munyonyo where he was reportedly due to serve as one of the groomsmen at a friend’s wedding the next morning. Unfortunately his car struck a barricade at a flyover junction. The car burst into flames, killing him on the spot.

Specifically, the fatality happened at the Busabala flyover traffic lights in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso district.

Rajiv was a solo occupant of the Nissan GTR that was moving from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo.

He had just returned to Kampala from London and had been driving in the Nissan GTR to join the wedding convoy for his close friend, Jonathan Bahizi Buteera, son of former Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera.

Rajiv, who was 35 at the time of his death was the only son of Sudhir Ruparelia the chairman and founder of Ruparelia Group a privately owned conglomerate with interests in hospitality, real estate, insurance and education.

He is survived by a wife, Naiya and a young daughter, Inara.
