Prosecution Rests in Katanga Murder Trial

Prosecution handling the  murder  case of a Kampala businessman Henry Katanga has closed its case with 25 witnesses.

Prosecution informed trial judge Comfort Rosette Kania that it believes that the evidence presented is sufficient for court to find that all the five accused have a case to answer.

However the judge has instructed that  parties should file written submissions with the defence team  explaining to court why the five should not be put to their defence.

The last prosecution witness has been a blood stain expert from the Uganda Police Force’s forensic department  Clemet Otiti .

Otiti has explained to court the different blood patterns that were collected from the murder scene of Henry Katanga from which he concluded that violet movements occurred in the master bedroom.

The trial which started in July this year features the Katanga family members including the widow, Molly Katanga, her 3 daughters, Martha Nkwanzi and Patricia Kakwanzi, the family’s shamba boy and a nursing officer Charles Otai.

The group is indicted for the  2nd  November 2023 murder by shooting of Henry Katanga at the family’s home on Chwa 11 Road in Mbuya- Nakawa Division.

The family was apprehended for murdering its patriarch after police investigations ruled out a reported suicide.

Justice Kania has indicated that she will deliver her ruling on whether the accused can defend themselves on the 19th February 2026.
