Police Intensify Crackdown on Concealed Motorcycle Number Plates

Written by on August 12, 2024

Police have warned motorcycle riders against concealing their number plates, stating that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.

The warning comes after a recent incident in Kololo where a rider, Edward Kagoma, 27, a resident of Mutungo, was arrested for concealing his number plate.

After conducting a search, Kagoma was found with a stolen bag containing two mobile phones, cash totaling 116,000 shillings, and other items. He confessed to stealing the items from a woman near American Stores in Bugolobi.

According to police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, concealing number plates is unacceptable and poses a significant threat to road safety and security. The police are urging all motorcycle riders to ensure their number plates are clearly visible, as required by law.

The City has also witnessed a wave of violent crime, mainly aggravated robbery orchestrated by criminal gangs who take to the streets on motorcycles while trailing their victims and then use the same motorbikes to make a fast getaway following the robberies.
