UNMF Musician Pallaso has defended his decision to join NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi on his campaign trail.
According to his statement, Pallaso said joining the NUP campaign trail as a singer is the only opportunity he has to air out some of the challenges that are affecting the arts industry and the ordinary Ugandans.
He said he is one of the people whose artistic works have been used for cheap on caller tunes, radios and Television stations.
“ How can I defend a government that has so far failed to address issues of copyright. I don’t get paid my copyright fees and royalties, so let me use this opportunity to preach about and promote the Party that will work on our issues in the next term,” he said.
His response comes after Uganda National Music Federation (UNMF) President and senior Presidential advisor on creatives Eddy Kenzo Musuuza said Pallaso would be punished for his decision.
He also said that Federation artists like Pallaso will be stopped from accessing UNMF SACCO Funds. However, Pallaso said he is fine with it.
“I really don’t care whether Eddy Kenzo and his team share government money with us or not because if the government had laws that protect our copyright and get paid for our works, we wouldn’t be seeking alternative temporary solutions like SACCO Funds,” Pallaso’s statement reads.
