NUP Campaign Faces Last-Minute Venue Shift Again

The National Unity Platform (NUP) is protesting last-minute changes to its campaign venue in Moroto District ahead of presidential campaign activities scheduled for later today.

Originally, NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu was scheduled to visit Napak, Amudat, and Moroto on January 7th, but the program was brought forward to January 6th.

In Moroto District, the campaign rally was initially slated for Naitakwae Grounds, a venue commonly used by all presidential candidates.

However, Kyagulanyi’s rally has now been relocated to Nadunget Town Council, adjacent to the livestock market, reportedly because Naitakwae Grounds had been booked by the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) for its annual Tarehe Siita Celebrations.

Mike Longole, Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed that police have drafted a deployment plan and engaged stakeholders to harmonize the program.

Longole added that the change was aimed at preventing disruptions between separate activities from different organizations.

Ernest Ayen, NUP coordinator for the Karamoja sub-region, said engagement with security forces on the campaign program has not gone as expected, but they are awaiting official communication. Among planned activities are the launch of NUP’s office in Moroto Municipality and the presidential rally.
