The Opposition National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party has suspended its president, Joseph Kizza Kabuleeta, for 90 days citing incompetence and tribalism, Deputy President Shadrach Ogembe will take over in the interim.
This decision was announced by the party spokesperson Moses Matovu during the party press conference held at the party headquarters in Lubaga, Kampala.
Matovu revealed that other reasons for Kabuleeta’s suspension include Self-declaration as presidential flag bearer, sectarianism tendencies, failure to convene party NEC meetings as stipulated in party’s Consititution honor dialogue among others.
“It portrays NEED party as a non-democratic party….Mr. Kabuleta is faulted for being sectarian where he suspended an executive member on grounds of ethnicity whom he called a Rwandese and therefore he could not trust him.” Matovu stated.
Matovu disclosed that for Kabuleeta to be reinstated, they must disclose funding sources and respect NEC engagements, among others.
“Mr. Kabuleta went ahead to expel party members, the National spokesperson and the Secretary General without following due process as is required by our constitution.” He added.
He called upon party members to stay calm stating that the party has other potential presidential flag bearers and won’t be held back by Kabuleta’s indiscipline, especially with elections approaching.
