Madrat and Chico back Gen. Saleh’s decision to bar musicians from his residence

Comedian duo Madrat and Chico have expressed their support for General Salim Saleh’s recent decision to bar musicians from visiting his residence.

The duo, however, hinted that they are hopeful for an invitation themselves, as they revealed that they had never been invited by the General.

Speaking on the matter, Madrat and Chico claimed that during the Covid-19 pandemic, some musicians exploited their connections to the General to obtain financial aid under dubious circumstances.

According to them, certain musicians approached them with requests for blank receipts, which were later used to justify requests for financial assistance from Gen. Saleh.

“Some of those musicians got a lot of money. They even asked for empty receipts from us during the COVID-19 period, yet they were going to Gen. Saleh to get the money. After receiving that money, they didn’t give us even a single coin,” the comedians alleged.

The duo commended the General’s decision, suggesting that his move to restrict singers while allowing comedians to maintain a clean slate was a step in the right direction.

“Good enough, he stopped singers from going to his place, not comedians. That is  why we have never gone there. We ask Gen. Saleh to call us as soon as possible because he has never invited us,” they added.

Recently, the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Gen. Salim Saleh, directed singer Edrisa Musuuza, popularly known as Eddy Kenzo, to address the influx of musicians traveling to Gulu for Christmas shows.

In a handwritten letter dated November 17, Gen. Saleh raised concerns that the arrival of these musicians was disrupting OWC’s work and programs in northern Uganda.

He specifically tasked Kenzo, in his role as Presidential Advisor on Creatives and President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), to manage the situation.

“Presidential Advisor on Creatives and President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation, please handle musicians who are flocking to Gulu for Christmas festivities shows,” Gen. Saleh wrote. “They are interfering with my work in Northern Uganda.”

In response to Gen. Saleh’s concerns, the OWC leadership called on stakeholders in the creative arts, particularly the UNMF and the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA), to align their activities with national priorities that promote socio-economic development.
