Ugandan artiste Joshua Baraka has continued to excel in his singing career by marking an important milestone as one of the performers at the 2025 edition of the Afro Nation Festival in Portugal.
He became the second Ugandan artiste to perform at the festival after Eddy Kenzo who featured at their 2022 festival in Puerto Rico.
This year’s festival that is taking place from July 9-11 on Praia da Rocha beach, will feature a diverse lineup including Burna Boy, Tems, Davido, and many more.
The festival, celebrating its fifth anniversary, will also include performances by Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige, Booba, and a host of other artists across various stages like the Lit Stage and Piano People stage.
The festival Afro Nation is an annual three-day music festival organized by global entertainment company The Malachite Group (TMG) and was founded in 2019 to unite the African diaspora in a celebration of dance, food, fashion, music.
The festival focuses on showcasing African and international artists across genres such as Afro beats, Amapiano, RNB, Hip hop and Dance hall.
Since 2019 the flagship Portugal festival has doubled in size, attracting 40,000 people from 140 countries worldwide, with 90% of festival goers traveling to the event from abroad.
The festival was nominated in the Best Overseas Festival category at the 2019 UK festival awards. It was created to promote African music genres and provide a platform for artists across the diaspora.
Joshua Baraka is a Ugandan singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, known for his fusion of musical styles and catchy melodies. Born and raised in Kampala, he gained prominence with his hit song “Nana,” which led to collaborations with prominent artists like Joeboy and Bien.
He is recognized as a rising star in the East African music scene and is known for his versatile talent and global vision for his music.
According to his background, he was Born on December 13, 2000, in Kawempe, Kampala, to a Kenyan father and Ugandan mother and started singing and writing songs at the age of 16.
He attended Kitante Primary School, Makerere College School (O-level), and Mengo Senior School (A-level) and decided to pursue music instead of a University Degree
He has collaborated with prominent artists like Joe boy, Bien, and King Promise on a remix of “Nana” and Bebe Cool on his latest album Break the Chains
Because of international music style and appeal, he was Selected as a Spotify RADAR Africa artist, promoting emerging African musicians.
