A private security guard has shot dead his colleague before turning the gun on himself in Nakawa Division.
Emmanuel Machugayi, who was deployed at Shumuk Aluminum Limited alongside two others picked a gun on Thursday night at around 9 pm and killed his colleagues.
Machugayi later turned the gun on himself after security personnel guarding nearby premises surrounded the area. His victims have been identified as Ashraf Kakyebei 21, and Stephen Owechi.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said Jinja road police responded to the incident and investigations are ongoing to establish what prompted Machugayi to kill his workmates. Owoyesigyire explained that the trio were staff of Ryayo Security Group Ltd.
Jinja Road police have assigned a team of officers to investigate the matter. Police said the three bodies were recovered and transported to Mulago KCCA Mortuary for postmortem examination while the guns have been recovered.
“The investigating team also recovered two rifles and several cartridges. Eyewitness statements were recorded by the first responding security officers at the scene. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation,” Owoyesigyire said.
