Guard Arrested for Murder of Ntinda Car Dealer

Police have arrested Hillary Byaruhanga, a private security guard accused of killing Ntinda car dealer Anthony Mutinisa on Sunday afternoon.

He was arrested in Kanungu District while reportedly attempting to flee to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to police, Mutinisa, who routinely went to his office on Sundays to balance accounts, was attacked at around 4:00 pm when he was alone. Investigations indicate that Byaruhanga shot him once, killing him instantly, before fleeing with an unspecified amount of money and his Toyota Land Cruiser V8.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the arrest, noting that Byaruhanga, aged 28, was apprehended alongside Mark Akampa, who allegedly connived with him to commit the murder. “Byaruhanga Hillary, a 28-year-old private security guard attached to Don World Security Limited, has been arrested in Kanungu District for the murder of Anthony Mutinisa, a 53-year-old businessman and proprietor of Mutinisa Motors Uganda,” Rusoke said.

He added that police recovered Mutinisa’s vehicle, registration UA 769 BQ, in Katwe Cell, Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu District. The late Mutinisa owned Mutinisa Motors and Driving School, located on Martyrs Way Road in Ntinda, Nakawa Division, Kampala.

Colleagues expressed shock at the incident, saying Byaruhanga was close to the deceased. Hassan Bukenya, one of Mutinisa’s staff, said the businessman had even trained the suspect to drive and treated him like a personal assistant.

“We don’t know what prompted Byaruhanga to kill our boss. They were close, and it is only Byaruhanga who can tell us what pushed him to kill someone who liked him so much,” Bukenya said. Preliminary investigations show that Byaruhanga first cut off CCTV connectivity before scaling into the office.

Police discovered torn curtains, suggesting that Mutinisa struggled to defend himself before being overpowered, possibly by multiple attackers.

Earlier, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, had said joint security teams were tracing Byaruhanga’s whereabouts before his eventual arrest.
