Local events promoter Miriam Mutakubwa of biggie events has been sent to Luzira Prison over a Ugx 70 million debt she picked up to organize a music concert for legendary ‘Kadongo-kamu’ singer Lord Fred Sebatta, on 14th, December, 2024
She borrowed the money from city businessman David Tumusiime Amooti who came to her rescue when she needed the money to invest in the concert.
Mutakubwa had no option of getting bail after being arrested by court bailiffs because she was sentenced in absentia as she has been dodging court proceedings.
According to events promoter Juma Balunywa, she reportedly made a very big loss during Lord Fred Sebatta’s concert. She paid Fenon Records Ugx 55m and also paid Ugx 50m to the singer and remained with nothing.
He said that even General Salim Saleh’s contribution of Ugx 100m towards the concert didn’t work because the money was shared between Fenon Records and Fred Sebatta leaving the promoter with nothing to take home.
According to court bailiff Sarah Komugisha, Mutakubwa was arrested from down town Kampala and was brought to court and the only option she had to avoid being taken to Luzira prison was to have the money in cash but she never had it.
Komugisha said Mutakubwa will spend six months in Luzira Prison unless she clears the debt in full.
Mutakubwa made her debut as a music promoter with Jose Chameleone’s Gwanga Mujje music concert in 2022.
