The Nabwisos Represent Uganda at the Emmy Awards

Ugandan filmmakers Matthew Nabwiso and wife Eleanor Nabwiso were the only Ugandans at the prestigious International Emmy Awards gala that happened on 24th, November, 2025 in New York, USA.

The duo represented Uganda and leaders of the Producers Guild of Uganda (PGU), an organization that was established to bring film producers to work together to professionalize their industry.

Matthew, who is a member of the International Emmy Committee of the awards joined other industry leaders from around the world at the event, positioning Uganda within influential international creative networks.

While in New York, the Nabswiso duo were also hosted at the Uganda Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

They met with Ambassador Duncan Muhumuza, Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Kwoba, and Minister Counsellor Celia Nabeta, holding what Mathew described as an insightful and supportive conversation about the Producers Guild of Uganda and the broader vision for the Ugandan film industry.

According to Matthew, the discussion focused on what the Producers Guild of Uganda is building, the challenges filmmakers face, and the potential for collaboration with Ugandan missions worldwide.

The Mission leadership expressed gratitude for the filmmakers’ visit and affirmed their readiness to support initiatives that strengthen the visibility and growth of Uganda’s creative sector.

The ambassadors also emphasised the need for other Ugandan missions across the world to follow suit in partnering with filmmakers and amplifying Uganda’s cultural footprint.
