The Makerere University Council is today holding a crisis meeting on the heels of suspended fatal guild elections.
Lorna Magara, Chairperson of the Council, announced in the wee hours of today morning that the guild elections that were to be held today had been indefinitely suspended over chaotic scenes that left Uganda Christian University law student Bewotti Betungura 27, killed.
Betungura, who was reportedly a member of Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party had joined his Makerere counterparts to campaign for his friend and party candidate, Justus Tukamushaba, but he was stabbed to death during clashes with alleged supporters of the National Unity Platform.
Makerere leadership has vowed to investigate all cases of violence in the electoral campaign for the 88th students’ guild leadership and report to the Council for appropriate action
