Alex Muhangi Voted President of Uganda Comedians Association

Comedian Alex Muhangi has been voted in as the new president of the Uganda Comedians Association (TUCA) at a general meeting that took place on Tuesday, 4th October 2025, at Royal Suites Hotel in Bugolobi.

Muhangi was overwhelmingly voted by most members of the association because of his leadership qualities. 

He officially replaced Fun Factory’s Bujingo Hannington , who has been president of the association for the last two years

Muhangi said he agreed to contest for the position because he wants the comedy industry to be professionalized.

“My goal is to make sure that comedy is professional and also to make sure that comedians are professional in the way of doing their work,” he said.

TUCA was officially launched in January 2020 (following its formation in early 2019) to bring all Ugandan comedians under one umbrella and address issues affecting the industry.

Muhangi’s new leadership role comes as part of an effort to revive and regulate the comedy industry in Uganda, an initiative that has faced challenges with the previous association’s inactivity. Hannington Bugingo has reportedly confirmed his support for the changes and the transition of leadership.
