The Executive Director of the Uganda Heart Institute Dr Omangino John has warned that merging the Institute with Mulago Hospital will diminish the super specialized services that the facility offers.
Government last month announced it has finalized plans to have a number of its ministries and agencies either merged or scrapped in a move aimed at cutting expenditure.
The Uganda Heart Institute it is proposed will be collapsed and placed under a directorate at the Mulago Specialized Hospital.
However Dr. Omangino says the institute has reached a level of international accreditation and super specialized status that Mulago does not have.
He says they have made an appeal to government and the institute is one of those where a decision is yet to be made regarding its fate.
