Government has resolved to reinstate PTA fees in government schools

The State Minister for Higher Education, Chrysostom Muyingo says Government has resolved to reinstate PTA fees in government schools.

PTA fees, otherwise known as Parent Teacher Association- fees  are used by Universal Primary and secondary schools to provide meals to learners. The money is also used to pay teachers who are not on the government payroll.

In November 2021, the cabinet scrapped PTA fees for all Universal Primary Education-UPE and Universal Secondary Education schools.

Although the government was targeting to ensure free and compulsory Primary and Secondary Education when schools reopen on January 10, parents and schools did not support the cabinet decision because of limited funding by government.

Muyingo now says that after several consultations, government has agreed to reinstate PTA fees but he cautions that learners who fail to pay should not be sent away.
