Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: A New Era in Uganda’s Telecom Sector

Written by on August 16, 2024

Eight women-owned firms received contracts worth UGX 1.6 billion and become the first beneficiaries of the Advancing Women Entrepreneurs initiative launched by MTN Uganda in partnership with several corporations including ATC Uganda.

The initiative aims to empower more women to take up significant businesses in the telecom sector space.

This program is focusing on growing the supply base, building powerful partnerships, enhancing business capacity, and cultivating sustainable ecosystems.

Speaking at the handover of contracts and launch of works in Maya, Dorothy Semanda Kabagambe, CEO of ATC Uganda says, ATC Uganda is proud to lead in empowering women entrepreneurs by integrating them into the supply chain and providing them with opportunities in engineering and technology.

Kabagambe says that this is more than just a business decision, but a commitment to gender equality and sustainable development.

She said they are dedicated to supporting these women as they contribute to their solar installation projects, helping them reduce environmental footprint while creating inclusive growth.

Sylvia Mulinge, MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer said, the telecom is proud to witness ATC Uganda hand over contracts to eight remarkable women-owned companies.

Mulinge added that this achievement is particularly meaningful as it reflects the success of the Advancing Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) initiative, which MTN Uganda spearheads to drive diversity and inclusion by integrating women entrepreneurs into their supply chain.
