This question of status of democracy was answered by government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo in response to the EU resolution, saying Uganda is a country of democracy and abides by the rule of law, Additionally said its un fair for west to call the regime one of violence and repression.
He believes that this is an imperial mentality where the western countries think that because they were colonizers, they have a superior moral ground to lecture Uganda.
Dr. Serunkuma believes that the west is merely using Bobi Wine as a bargaining chip to pressure Museveni into conceding to some of their demands. He says Museveni may posture and talk tough against the west but he is secretly making amends with the western powers.
