Members of parliament have called for a special audit into Posta –Uganda.
They believe this would find a solution to re-organise the entity following the COSASE report that indicates that the entity has failed on its duties.
The MPs concern was raised during the debate on COSASE report on the AUDITOR General’s financial statements on posta-Uganda presented to parliament by Nakaseke central MP Allan Mayanja.
The committee report noted that unlicensed operators in couriers dominate 60% of the country’s courier business, which causes government loss and eliminates legitimate operators from this business.
Ibanda North mp Xavier Kyooma Akampurira supported the idea of a special audit into posta-Uganda to understand its challenges and how it has led the government to lose revenue on its watch.
Kampala woman MP Shamim Malende complained of a breach of statutory duty by government entities like Posta –Uganda whereby failing to remit NSSF for staff creates legal implications for the entity and causes financial loss to the government.
She asked the government entities to always use their legal officers and listen to them so that they don’t breach the statutory requirements that can cause the government to lose funds.
