The future of 34 final-year students at Bumangi Community Polytechnic is at stake following the decision by the incumbent, Kalangala Woman MP, Aidah Nabayiga to cancel her sponsorship.
Nabayiga cancelled her assistance after losing her parliamentary seat. The legislator has been supporting over 80 students.
Majority of the students are stranded since the MP has turned down their request for support after losing in the just-concluded parliamentary elections to the National Unity Platform-NUP candidate, Helen Nakimuli.
Most of the final year students have resorted to fishing activities.
None of the students has registered for the Uganda Business and Technical Examination Board-UBTEB exams, which are scheduled to start on April 8th, 2021. The remaining 46 students are also likely to drop out of school should they fail to find sponsors. Morris Kuule, the Bursar Bumangi Community Polytechnic, says that they haven’t heard from Nabayiga.
