Deputy Speaker Anita Among has overruled a section of Opposition lawmakers who were calling on Parliament to suspend sittings until Government rescinds its decision to fire all intern medical doctors.
Government last week ordered all striking intern doctors to leave the premises of public hospitals for refusing to halt their strike for better pay.
Bukonzo West MP Atkins Katusabe asked the Deputy Speaker to compell the Ministry of Health to rescind its directive to fire the intern medics since the decision was tainting the image of the nation. He asked that parliament suspend sittings until the situation is resolved.
