Police to Recruit 60,000 Officers Before 2021 Elections
Uganda Police Force has revealed plans to bring on board a total of 60,000 officers that will oversee the highly anticipated elections.
The Force’s plans were made by Rogers Muhirwe, the Under Secretary Uganda Police yesterday while appearing before the Defence and Internal Affairs
Committee to present the Force’s 2019/2020 ministerial policy statements
Muhirwe told the Committee that Police plans to recruit 10,000 Probationer Police Constables (PPCs) and 50,000 Special Police Constables (SPCs) in
preparation for policing the general elections.
He added that the recruitment will be phased in three batches and in 2018/2019 they intend to recruit 5000 PPCs and the exercise is planned to
begin in April 2019 and training commences by May or June 2019 but the said exercise is subject to the approval of the supplementary release request
for the activity that is before the Parliamentary Budget Committee.
