NEW LEADER OF OPPOSITION IN PARLIAMENT CALLS FOR UNITY
Incoming Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Betty Aol Ochan, has called for Unity among the opposition in Parliament to achieve alternative development policies.
Aol was making her maiden speech, as Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
Her statement comes amidst divisions in the opposition Forum for Democratic Change party, arising out of a reshuffle, by Party President Patrick Amuriat.
Amuriat was elected FDC Party President in November last year, after defeating the incumbent President Major General Mugisha Muntu.
In his first appointments after assuming the presidency, Amuriat dropped Winnie Kiiza, the Kasese woman MP and several other legislators, who openly campaigned for his opponent.
The changes have been described as a reward for supporters of Amuriat, who was backed by former party president Dr Kiiza Besigye.
But Aol says the opposition in Parliament is numerically dis-advantaged, and cannot afford to be divided, if it's to remain relevant, as a force that has the ability to hold government accountable.
She observed a need for dialogue, to heal the wounds and divisions triggered by the reshuffle.

Aol praised her predecessor Winfred Kiiza, for putting up a spirited fight against the removal of presidential age, and exhibiting valor and leadership.
Kiiza on her part, congratulated the incoming Leader of Opposition, and thanked Parliament for according her a cordial working environment.
