Negotiations over the cancelled Local Council Elections Still Ongoing
The Electoral Commission is still in negotiations with the parties in a court case the led to the cancellation of Local Council Elections that were initially scheduled for November 2017.
The Electoral Commission postponed the elections in compliance with court orders from the High Court in Kampala and an earlier order from Jinja High Court.
The Kampala High Court order followed an application by James Tweheyo challenging the elections in the absence of Advanced Secondary School students who were at the time sitting for their final exams.
Later the Electoral Commission and the petitioners agreed to settle the matter out of Court through negotiations.
According to Electoral Commission Spokesperson Jotham Taremwa these negotiations are still ongoing.
This is likely to push the local council elections further as students are due to return to school in just a few weeks.
Today, Sanyu FM spoke to Electoral Commission Spokesperson, Jotham Taremwa who says negotiations are progressing smoothly.
