MISS CURVY DIVIDES PARLIAMENT
Parliament has failed to force the minister of state for Tourism Godfrey kiwanda to apologize over promoting Miss curvy Pageant.
This as they learnt that from the minister that Miss curvy Pageant has not been organized by the Ministry of Tourism.
Kiwanda told parliament that Miss curvy Pageant has been organized by Ugandans licensed like those who organize Miss Uganda beauty Pageant.
Kiwanda said that the Miss Curvy Pageant was not meant to present women as objects of tourism attraction.
He added that just like any other pageant, miss curvy was meant to appreciate Uganda's beauty adding that previous beauty pageants have focused only on skinny women.
However, Miss curvy Pageant divided parliament as some members of parliament support this imitative but others are against.
Kanungu district woman Member of Parliament Elizabeth kalungi encourage minister Kiwanda to go ahead with this pageant because there are people who appreciate fat and curvy women as there others who need skinny women who contest as beauty queen.
MP for Persons with Disability for Eastern region Hellen Asamo appreciated the initiative and wished that there is also a pageant for the disabled persons just like there is Miss Albino. She said that ‘Miss Disabled’ contest will provide an opportunity for males to appreciate the beauty of the disabled.
Dokolo district woman mp Cecilia Ogwal wanted kiwanda to apologize but she was shocked to hear some members of parliament defending the minister over miss curvy.
The debate climaxed after Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa who also doubles as Kiboga Woman MP took to the floor of Parliament and flaunted her body in support of the Miss Curvy Contest.
