KASIANO WADRI BEATS 11 CANDIDATES IN ARUA PARLIAMENTARY RACE, WHILE IN DETENTION
Independent Candidate Kassiano Wadri is the new Arua Municipality Member of Parliament Elect, having deafeated 11 other candidates in a race characteristed by arrests and violence.
Kasiano Wadri who did not vote, as he spent polling day behind bars, polled 6,421 votes, while his closest challenger the ruling party's NRM candidate Nusura Tiperu polled 4,798 votes.
Arua district returning officer Ruth Angom Ococ made the announcement.

In third place was independent candidate Robert Ejiku with 2,694, and the FDC's Bruce Musema was in fourth place with 1,369 votes.
Electoral Commission Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama, called on the people of Arua and Uganda to embrace good democratic principles by exercising their right to vote in a peaceful manner.

Kasiano Wadri was arrested on Monday evening along with several MPs including the Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga, Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zzake, Jinja East MP Paul Mwiru, and former MP Mike Mabikke.
