DPP DROPS ALL CHARGES AGAINST RED PEPPER DIRECTORS
The Director of public prosecutions has withdrawn charges of publicing news that disturbs the peace of presdent Museveni that had been brought against Red pepper directors and editors .
The withdrawal letter signed by the DPP Mike Chibita has been presented before Buganda Road court chief magistrate James Ereemye Mawanda by state prosecutor Abdul-Salaam Waiswa.
Magistrate Ereemye had warned to dismiss the case if prosecution had not come up with an update regarding the out of court negotiations between the parties . The accused directors include; Managing Director Richard Tusiime, Finance Director Johnson Musinguzi, Director Operations Patrick Mugumya and a director who doubles as a secretary and chief marketing officer Arinatiwe Rgyendo.
Others are Richard Kintu; the Deputy News Editor , James Mujuni a journalist , Ben Byarabaha a senior Editor and Francis Tumusiime; the special project Editor.
Prosecution had stated that on the 20th /November/ 2017 at the Red pepper offices in Namanve- Mukono District, the accused unlawfully caused the publication and distribution of a newspaper head line, portraying his excellency the President Yoweri Museveni, Gen. Saleh and Lt Gen Tumukunde as having contrived a plot to over throw the Government of the Republic of Rwanda; well knowing that such a publication can disrupt public Order and security.
