Al-Shabaab Claims Responsbility for the Nairobi Attacks
The Somali militant group Al-Shabab have claimed responsibility for the terror attack at a hotel complex in Nairobi, Kenya.
The attack happened at the Dusit D2 Hotel along 14 Riverside in Nairobi on Tuesday.
"We are currently conducting an operation in Nairobi", Al-Shabab spokesperson Sheik Ali Dhere is quoted by Al-Jazeera.
The gunshots and explosion were reported at around 3:15 pm. Several people said they heard a loud bang, followed by unceasing gunshots.
Flames and plumes of black smoke billowed into the sky from the parking lot of the compound where several vehicles were on fire, with scores of people fleeing the compound, some of them injured.
The Inspector General of Police Kenya Police Service Joseph Boinet while addressing the media said that specialized security units have been sent to handle the situation and all government infrastructure and installations guarded.
