Former Works and Transport Minister Engineer Abraham Byandala has defended himself before the Anticorruption court in Kampala against allegations that he stole 24 billion shillings money that was meant to upgrade Mukono -Katosi Nyenga road .

Byandala has given a sworn testimony before pressing justice Lawrence Gidudu. Byandala is jointly accused with six other people of embezzling the said money from government during his tenure of office between 2013 and 2014.

The 68 year old Byandala representing Katikamu North Constituency in parliament has told presiding Justice Gidudu that he never irregularly wrote a letter directing the signing of the contract between UNRA and a fake construction company EUTA  but he was acting on the advise of the Solicitor General and UNRA Advisor who gave a no objection to the commencement of the said works. Byandala also denied ever coming across the IGG letter of 17/July/2014 ordering him to halt works on the said road .

However in Cross-examination by the head of Prosecutions at IGG's office, Brenda Kimbugwe; it became clear that Byandala's letter dated 13/November/2013 was a directive which left the Acting UNRA Executive Director Eng. Kimezze Ssebbugga with no option, but to sign the contract with Eutaw despite the fact that due diligence had not yet been taken.
